Deliberation in Schools: Baltimore High Schools in One Room
FSB to host Baltimore High Schools in One Room,
10/22-23, 2020
Are you interested in meaningful, open dialogue about pressing issues facing our country? Do you want to be a more well-informed citizen and (future) voter? If so, we invite you to join with hundreds of high school students from across the Baltimore region for a two-day deliberation on some of the most important issues shaping the 2020 election.
In partnership with Stanford University’s Center for Deliberative Democracy, students at Friends School of Baltimore are hosting a deliberative event that will allow high school students to take a deep dive into three areas of pressing national concern: the economy, health care, and foreign policy. Informed by nonpartisan briefing documents, students will participate in small group deliberations followed by Q&A sessions with national experts on these topics. Polls taken before and after the deliberations will reveal how our thoughts and perspectives on these topics are affected by thoughtful, open, and deeply informed deliberation.
Stanford’s Center for Deliberative Democracy hosts deliberations around the world with the vision of enlivening public dialogue to generate informed and productive solutions to pressing social concerns. We were inspired to work with Stanford after learning about their “America in One Room” project. We’re delighted that they are coming to Baltimore to help us to learn how deliberation affects opinions about important national issues.
