Purpose
Sudanese individuals were surveyed to obtain a better understanding of their views on various political and security issues affecting Sudan, and to identify the current state of affairs. This survey aims to explore the Sudanese people’s views on topics related to security, democratic principles, human rights, and justice. The ongoing war was a topic of particular focus; Sudanese people were asked about how they view the war, the stakeholders, their predictions for post-war scenarios, and their hopes for how they will be governed moving forward.
This survey was commissioned in preparation for a Deliberative Polling exercise in Sudan in the forthcoming months.
Survey Methodology
Participants were selected from the capital cities of 5 states in Sudan (restricted from areas with significantly high-security risk), which were the River Nile, Red Sea, Al Gezira, North Darfur, and South Kordofan states. Six localities from each capital city were quasi-randomly selected, and 10 participants were interviewed from each locality. There were a total of 300 participants, 60 from each state/capital city. IDP camps and refugee settlements were not part of the sample pool. The survey had a margin of sampling error of 3.5%.
Interviews were conducted in-person in Arabic from June 3 to June 11, 2024 using the data collection platform SurveyToGo. The population of interest were adults 18 and older living in a regular household, and the sample had a final make-up of 150 men and 150 women. The survey was administered by Random Dynamics Resources, a leading survey research organization in Sub-Saharan Africa.
